Sebastien Ogier took his second career World Rally Championship victory at the WRC Rally Japan and cemented his 2nd place position in the driver’s points standings. Ogier went into the final day of Rally Japan, in 3rd place, but just 5.4 seconds behind Petter Solberg, but Solberg suffered a broken damper and Ogier was able to capture the victory by just over 15 seconds. “It’s amazing really and I’m really happy,” said Ogier. “Arriving here for my first time I knew it was a difficult rally because I don’t like stages that are very rough. But quickly I found a good feeling and a good rhythm.”

In addition to the damper issue, Petter Solberg who was battling an illness and fever, also reported a serious steering issue on the final day and had no chance to repair either issue due to a midday service halt. Solberg still managed to drive his way to a 2nd place finish, despite the issues with the car and his health. The podium finish edged Solberg closer to Latvala and 3rd place in the driver’s standings. “I never thought it would go so well after the fever because I was terrible at the start of the rally,” said Solberg. “But I had a very good feeling. It’s just unfortunate we had a problem with the car.”

Citroen released a teaser video for the car that will replace the C4 in WRC next year. The clip features the new Citroen DS3 Rally Car in a dim lighting. Some features are shown, the spoiler and dashboard layout. You also get a quick glance at the silhouette of the new Citroen WRC car. Look for the car to be fully revealed at the end of the month in Paris as the Paris Motorshow, which also happens to be the day before the Rallye de France gets under way.

The Ken Block Gymkhana 3 Part video was just posted, watch it below… only 318 views so far, I’m sure that will increase rapidly. In part 2, Ken Block, the self-proclaimed “Hoonigan” takes his Ford Fiesta to l’Autodrome, in Paris, France, “The Ultimate Playground”.
In the 3rd installment of the Gymkhana series Block gets back to basics. Gymkhana 3 focuses more on driving skill, then fancy effects and eye candy, but there is still definitely a bunch of excitement to be had. One of the most impressive parts is when Block takes his 650 Horse Power (at the wheels) Ford Fiesta on the 51 degree bank and does cookies around a lone cone in the center of the embankment. That could not have been easy and Block says he was very worried about rolling the car because of the steepness of the banking. Block also says they saved that trick for last, just in case he did roll the car, as they needed the car for the rest of the shooting.
Returning is the popular segway trick where Block spins his Gymkhana Fiesta around a moving Segway scooter, leaving the rider in a cloud of smoke. Block gets so close to the Segway that he actually bumps it a couple of times.

In case you haven’t seen… Ken Block’s Gymkhana 3, Part 1 is out. It’s just a music video and isn’t much else of anything. Some sliding of the fiesta and such, but hopefully the actual Gymkhana video will be much better. The video features The Cool Kids and Ken Block, his Gymkhana Ford Fiesta, as well as some DC Shoes, light bulbs and paint. Watch some ‘hooning’ and rapping and not much else below.

In recent years Sebastien Loeb has dominated on tarmac and Rallye Deutschland in Germany was no different. Loeb dominated from early on to claim his 8th win in Germany, a new record for most wins on one event. Loeb has not lost in Germany throughout his entire WRC career that began in 2002. The victory in Germany means that Loeb could wrap up his 7th world championship in Japan if Sebastien Ogier finishes 6th or worse. Fittingly, it is more likely that Loeb will wrap up the title in his home country in France at the following event.

Rally America unveiled SuperRally to the world, or at least the U.S. at X Games 16. No they are changing their name and the name of the event. Rally America has rebranded and will now be known as RallyCar. They are also unveiling for 2011 that there will be a Rallycross Championship. Yes, that’s right Rallycross will be much the same as SuperRally was at X Games 16, with cars on the same course at the same time, wheel to wheel.

One word sums up the X Games 16 rally events, disaster! The rally car portion ended with only 3 match ups actually coming to a conclusion. The rest of the match ups ended either in an off-course being called or one car breaking before the finish. There was so much confusion with where the course was supposed to go that not only the drivers, but the spectators, the announcers and even the camera men seemed befuddled as to what was occurring. Even if there hadn’t been so much confusion, the courses were horribly designed. They were very tight with a few too many handbrake turn sections, giving a huge advantage to the smaller and lighter Ford Fiesta rally cars. There were 2 near-miss head on collisions as the crossover point was a blind intersection with one car emerging from under the jump into the high-speed straight section of the other car.

After teammate Mikko Hirvonen surrendered his lead to Petter Solberg early on in the rally after crashing out, Jari-Matti Latvala pushed hard to grab the lead back for the Ford Team and after taking the lead after stage 7 held on to win in his home rally, Neste Oil Rally Finland. It is often said that the Finnish drivers have a home-field advantage in Finland and that seemed to ring true again this year. In winning, Latvala became the youngest driver to capture a victory in Finland. “It’s a dream and I can’t even imagine it yet! It’s something I’ve been dreaming of since I was a small boy!”, exclaimed Latvala after the event.
