Blytheville National Tour & ProSolo

11 Jun , 2010   David

GotCone spent the last 2 weekends in Blytheville, AR for the National Tour (Southern States Championship) ProSolo. Both events had some very fast and exciting courses. The National Tour had over 300 competitors which helped provide some great action as drivers vied for the Southern States Championship in their class. The National Tour States’ Championship series is part of the Triad award (States Championship, Divisional Championship and National Championship).

The ProSolo had some excitement of it’s own. On Sat. afternoon an EP CRX burst into flames when fuel caught fire on the hot engine. The fire was quickly extinguished and thankfully no one was injured.

Jeff Jacobs driving his Helix MINISports/MINIUSA.com 2008 Mini Cooper from HS beat out Ian Baker in his Toyo / Stranoparts Honda CRX from STS for the Super Challenge win at the ProSolo. McClure-Strelnieks the 2nd place finisher in L2 in her 1993 Mazda RX-7 beat out Michelle Seelig from L1 in her Toyo Tires, Redline, Hawk, Maxqdata Yellow Honda CRX for the Ladies Challenge win.

Christy Carlson took 2nd place in STUL in her 2006 Subaru STi at the National Tour. Christy started day 2 of the ProSolo in 2nd place in a very competitive L2 class, behind fellow Nebraskan Sue Eckles. Christy was barely bumped down to a 4th place trophy position on Sunday while Sue was able to hold on to 1st place for her first ProSolo win. Christy’s times at the ProSolo left her just 7 one thousandths out of the Ladies Challenge, but she did get selected for the Bonus Challenge. Christy made it all the way to the final round, but the 4 second head start that her HS competitor got at the lights was too much and Christy redlighted on her 1st run. Red lights seemed the theme for all the Nebraska drivers who made the challenge, Sue Eckles redlighted in the Ladies’ Challenge and Matt McCabe redlighted in the Super Challenge.

Pat Lipsinic also driving the GotCone 2006 Subaru STi placed 2nd at the National Tour and finished a disappointing 3rd at the ProSolo after coning away 2 runs that would’ve given him an almost 1 second advantage and the win. Pat squared off against James Wilson, who won STX, in the Super Challenge. Pat finally was able to clean up his runs and even broke out by .3 seconds to move on to the 2nd round. Pat was eliminated by eventual 3rd place finisher Robert Carpenter in his ES MR-2. Pat forced Carpenter to break out by .8 seconds in order for him to move on.
